Writing to Win *
Each of my classes center around the importance of applying content knowledge in appropriate context. What this means is, students are expected to be able to use information and facts learned in class and apply that knowledge through multiple and frequent short writing assignments. We use a variety of writing strategies and writing prompts, created by Writing To Win founder Dr. Warren Combs, to help guide students in the writing process. Learning and using vocabulary within these writings also facilitates critical thinking among students. Students record their entries into a journal, share their work with their peers for assessment, and grade themselves in order to track and monitor growth over time. Numerous studies and research support frequent writing, showing significant achievement growth in students' scores on comprehensive tests such as the End of Course Tests and Student Learning Objectives.
